They’re going to strip it bare, like every other auto company does.

Doesn't Tesla hand everyone their patents anyways? What's the point?

Reverse engineer the crap out of it and see what can be mass manufactured into ford’s line up.

patenting something doesn’t necessarily tell anyone how to use it. Tesla’s not telling the industry how to make a Model S or X. They’re saying “we’re probably not going to sue you if you come up with something which infringes on these patents.

You gain a lot more knowledge taking something apart than by looking at patents. Plus not everything is patented, some things are protected as trade secrets so you won't find out about them until you take one apart.

The electric car future is upon us!!!

For the non auto industry people here, every car company pays this company that strips cars and catalogs everything. Heres the list!
Clearly Ford doesnt want to wait for them to get a Model X.

But what does it mean?????
It means Ford benchmarks the competition, just like everyone else.

Good point. I wasn't looking at the how it works aspect, I was looking more at the what's in it area.

I hadn't really looked at it from the how angle but more of the what angle.
